Hellingly Hospital

Hellingly Hospital was a large psychiatric hospital in Hellingly, East Sussex. It opened in 1903 and stayed open until 1994, steadily falling into decline until 2010 through to 2013, when its remains were demolished to make way for new housing.

Since my A-Level photography teacher mentioned the site to me I visited twice, and so-called ‘urban exploration’ became one of my favourite areas of photography. Many of the photos in this gallery were taken using HDR techniques, combined with spending a lot of time post-production perfecting them.
